Federico Cortez Jr., 76, of Olmito, Texas, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, entered eternal rest on April 4, 2023, at Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 29, 1946, in Olmito, Texas.

Federico Cortez, Jr., was born and raised in Olmito, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday while enjoying a cold Bud Light. Especially when his numbers hit. Barbequing with family and friends was Federico’s best past time. He also loved taking his antique car for a drive around Olmito where he resided for 76 years. Federico was an employee at HEB for 16 years before his retirement. He loved going to see his grandchildren playing sports. Federico was always filled with love and positivity. He had a very big heart and was always available to give a hand to a friend. He greeted everyone with a big smile and had a great sense of humor. He loved to dance to Tejano classics with his loving wife Janie of 55 years. He will be missed dearly by everyone who knew the kind and pure hearted man he was.

He is preceded in death by his parents Federico and Concepcion Cortez, brothers: Eliseo, Ernesto and Carlos Cortez, sisters: Eliza Perkins and Magdalena Martinez and a great-grandson Lee Phillip Cortez III.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife: Janie Cortez: his children; Lee (Dana), Connie (John), JoAnn (Willie), and Frederick (Mary), also his sister Elida Espinoza, nine grandchildren and 6-great grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 1PM to 8PM with a Prayer Service at 6PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. A Chapel Service is scheduled for Friday, April 14, 2023, at 12PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with burial to follow at 1PM at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pall Bearers will be Lee Cortez, Frederick Cortez, John Davila, Willie Hernandez, Frederick Cortez II, Frederick L. Cortez, Anthony Davila Lee P. Cortez II, and Jordan Cortez. Honorary pallbearer is William T.K. Hernandez.
