Simona “Mona” Medina

Simona “Mona†Medina, a Brownsville native, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 19, 2022. She was surrounded by her loving family, “Julio Cesar Cazares, Bryanna, Brindelyn, George, Jessica, Catarina, and Herminio Garcia Sr.†Mona was born February 3, 1951, to Trinidad Pena Medina † and Francisco M. Medina. †

She graduated from Brownsville High, worked hard all her life, as a migrant worker in the fields when very young, she managed several businesses (Haggars), and most recently worked at HEB. She met many people throughout her life and touched many hearts. Mona enjoyed attending church, “Our Lady of Good Counsel,” gardening, taking care of her pets, spending time with her family & friends, and lending a hand. She especially loved preparing delicious meals for her family at any time of the year, especially during the holidays. She always had treats and snacks in her home for whomever visited, especially for the children in the family. She never hesitated to help others and always reminded us that “the doors to her home were always open.” Mona will forever be known as a caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whom went above and beyond for many.

Mona was preceded in death by her mother Trinidad Pena Medina, † father Francisco M. Medina, † brother Francisco Medina Jr, † and most recently by her sister Ignacia Luna †. She is survived by her son, Julio Cesar Cazares, her sister, Catarina (Herminio Sr.) Garcia, her brother Fernando (Rachel) Medina; her nephews and nieces, Roberto Luna, Rolando Luna, George (Jessica) Garcia, Fernando Medina Jr. Felicia Medina, Bryanna Garcia, Brindelyn Garcia, and many other family members.
