Jorge Enrique Rosas Garcia

Jorge Enrique Rosas Garcia

Jorge Enrique Rosas Garcia, devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather passed away quietly in his home on September 5, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was 79 years old.

Born to Jorge Rosas Valdez and Magdalena Josefina Garcia on February 19,1943 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, he was the oldest of 5 siblings with whom he was very close to throughout his life. With his strong and influential parents as role models, it was no surprise that he graduated with a bachelor’s and master’s from the Technologico de Monterrey in Agronomy in 1969 and a Doctorate Degree in Agronomy and Entomology from Texas A & M University in 1975. There are countless stories of his love of knowledge and endless sharing of learning opportunities with everyone around him. His grandchildren will always remember their “Abu George†as a walking book of knowledge and a fountain of wisdom since he shared his love of education and learning with them every chance he got.

He met Teresa Rodriguez at a dance for the Technologico de Monterrey in the Casino de Matamoros on the 26th of December of 1967. After that first dance, it was love. They got married on March 21,1970 at the Sagrado Corazon church in Matamoros and later had three beautiful children.

Throughout the years, Jorge was known as a lively center of attention, nearly always hosting a musical gathering of some kind. He could readily be found with a violin in hand, a broad grin on his face, and jovially encouraging others to play along.

While a strong and often quiet figure, he could frequently be caught boasting about his children and their accomplishments. Conserving the importance of family unity, he and Teresa would make it a point to travel seasonally to visit their children to Austin and El Paso and found any reason to be around the grandkids. He delighted in seeing them grow, and each of them brought him endless joy.

Jorge is survived by his wife, Teresa; son, Sergio Eduardo; two daughters, Irma Susana and Cynthia; siblings, Sergio, Maguita, Armantina, Gladys and his grandchildren; Nicolas Rafael, Daniela Susana, Gerardo Javier, Paulina Alejandra, and Paisley Elise.

Funeral Mass will be held for Jorge at 2pm on Friday, September 9, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brownsville, TX.  It will be followed by a potluck celebration of life at their home in Brownsville.  Don’t forget to bring your instruments, and if you don’t happen to play one, bring your voices.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to keep his memory going by helping underprivileged kids find the love he had for music and bringing people together with music by donating to the Jorge Rosas Musical instrument GoFundMe.com account (https://gofund.me/dcebc2c6).
