Irma Duarte Garcia

Irma Duarte Garcia, 77, of Brownsville, Texas, devoted mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Brownsville, Texas on November 14, 1944.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ninfa Estrada and Ismael Duarte; her husband Antonio Garcia; siblings Rogelio Duarte and Virginia D. Centeno.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Sandra Garcia, Norma Alicia Garcia (Lorenzo Garcia), Antonio Garcia Jr. (Maria Hernandez); brother Jose Luis Duarte (Belinda); grandchildren Jose Antonio Garcia, Juan Carlos Garcia, Christian Alejandro Garcia, Lorenzo Antonio Garcia, Aylin Adamari Garcia; great-grandchildren Johan Antonio Garcia, Nalani Alessandra Garcia, Azaleia Brielle Garcia, and Elijah Messiah Garcia.

Irma Garcia was a woman who stood true to her faith and was a warrior of God. She was a trailblazer for never giving up being able to leave school for ten years and come back to finish her bachelors in three years. She approached every person she met with a smile and faced every obstacle with strength and determination. She had a golden laugh that would brighten up a room as well as a smile that made you want to smile right back. She was a woman who would show you all the love her heart can pour out, but also set you straight and give you the honesty that you needed to hear. In her free time, Irma enjoyed reading her Bible, tending to her plants, and gardening, cooking the best tortillas and food you will ever have. Attending her family’s accomplishments and events such as graduations, games, recitals, concerts, etc.… She was an amazing woman that will live in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be Monday, August 8, 2022, from 12PM to 8PM with a prayer service at 6PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 10AM with a church service at 12PM at Templo Bethel Asambleas de Dios (2965 Tampico St., Brownsville, TX). Interment will follow at 1PM at Buena Vista Burial Park. Services are under the guidance of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Crematory & Flower Shop. 657 Springmart Blvd., Brownsville, Texas.
