José G. Zárate

José G. Zárate, 87, of Brownsville, Texas, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend entered into eternal rest on July 20, 2022, at Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Mexico City, D. F. on November 21, 1934.

He is preceded in death by his parents Aurelia and Baldomero Zárate; his brother, Luciano Zárate.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Julia Orozco Zárate; his children Sergio Luis Zárate (Dolores); Maricela Zárate Puente (Gregorio); Graciela Zárate; Jose Luis Zárate (Monica); four grandchildren Marla D. Zárate, Joey Zárate, Zariah Zárate, and Ezekiel Zárate; siblings Victoria Zárate Miranda, Concepcion Zárate, Christina Rodriguez, and Arturo Zárate.

José was one of the first dreamers to come to the U.S. in the late 1950’s. His first dream was to marry the love of his life Julia Orozco. An avid soccer fan, he started both the first adult amateur and youth leagues in Brownsville. A self-made businessman and entrepreneur, he operated a chain of successful dry-cleaning businesses (Rex Cleaners) since 1961. His dream to have his children become professionals was accomplished with each one earning degrees in various fields.

Viewing will be held from 1PM to 4PM and visitation with family will be held from 4PM to 6PM on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at 10AM at St. Mary’s Mother of the Church Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at 11AM at Buena Vista Burial Park.

    Tío querido descansa la misión que tenía aquí la cumpliste formaste una bella familia, para mi fuiste un ejemplo de vida y fortaleza, mi amigo, descansa en Paz, te voy a extrañar pero tú ya estás mejor.

    Una gran pérdida para su familia….un gran ser humano ,QEPD Sr Zarate siempre agradecida, que Dios lo tenga en su gloria.
