Federico Treviño Gómez

Federico Treviño Gómez, 85, of Brownsville, TX a beloved and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Federico was a wonderful husband, a dedicated father, a proud and loving grandfather, and a natural born chef.  In his younger days Don Lico, as everyone called him, loved to dance and would not miss a local event until he met the love of his life Manuela Zuniga Escamilla close to La Patria, Tamaulipas, MX.  He would leave love notes in the planters for her to read in hopes of winning over her heart. One day she finally said yes, they married in 1961 and raised 4 beautiful children.
Motivated by Doña Mela, his wife, he opened a small grocery store where he sold “Barbacoa de Pozo†every Sunday, instilling a tradition in his community of La Mariano in the city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, MX.
He dedicated his life to his family and instilled in his children independence, self-discipline and to be generous towards others with his strict character. He loved his grandchildren and would always ask them “Quién es el amor de Welo?,†the answer was always “Yo!â€
Don Lico loved to cook.  At family gatherings his favorite dish to make was “Cabrito,†it was so delicious that his children and grandchildren would race to get the best part. Some would even hide their plate to make sure no one else took it.
He also enjoyed eating ice cream and cherry flavored raspas every time he had a chance.  His favorite pastime with his wife was keeping their garden vivid and beautiful.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ricarda Gómez Elizondo and Amador Treviño Gómez; his siblings, Adalia Treviño Arjona, Genaro Treviño Gómez and Guadalupe Treviño-Quintanilla.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of over 60 years, Manuela Zuñiga Escamilla; four children, Jesus Federico (Margarita) Treviño, Javier (Veronica) Treviño, Yliana (Eduardo) Guzman, and Belinda (Carlos) Garcia; eleven Grandchildren, Jesus Alejandro Treviño, Thalia Cardenas, Thayre Alexa Santiago, Karla Alejandra Trejo, Alessandra Treviño, Javier Treviño Jr., Arlett M.
