Mary Blanche Jones

Mary Blanche Jones was called to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at her home in Brownsville, TX. Also affectionately known as “Bunnyâ€, Mary, age 94, was born on September 19, 1927, in Asheville, North Carolina. She came to Brownsville with the love of her life, Lee Dale Jones, and left a loving mark on this community. She was a beacon of light to those around her, had a gift for identifying the needs of people who needed help and would work tirelessly to find ways to meet and exceed those needs. Mary devoted loving energies to enhance the quality of education in Brownsville by bringing programs such as the Lion’s Quest Skills for Living Program to our public and private schools. She spent countless hours working with the Medical Alliance promoting projects for them to support and help our community. She helped start a dance group of women (over half who were cancer survivors) called “Gotta Dance†and these women danced their way into many a heart putting on style shows and performing for numerous functions and charity events. Most importantly, Mary was dedicated to her Christian home, Central Christian Church, and she was passionate about helping Missions grow and making Central Christian Church a warm and welcome place to worship and be fed with the love of Christ. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a loyal and devoted friend to many and she will be sorely missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents Roy Monroe Wilson and Maggie Mae Wilson, her loving husband of 67 years, Lee Dale Jones, MD, her sister, Martha Tyson, and her son, Otis Ray Jones. She is survived by her son, Jeff Jones, DDS (Terrye) of New Braunfels, her daughter, Joy Jones of Brownsville, and daughter, Holly Jones of Victoria. Also mourning her loss are 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

My dear friend, I thank the Lord for having blessed me with your friendship, you have left a vacuum in my heart but have also left many good, wonderful memories of the last years that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I will miss your company immensely, our going to lunch on Sundays after church, and the many other special times we spent together.
I am sad for losing you but comforted by the fact that you were an exemplary Christian and you now are in the hands of our Lord. May God give Holly and Joy, and the rest of your family fortitude and comfort. Rest In Peace Mary, I love you!

Mary, my darling friend, we know there is no death and that your love and presence are alive in the lives of the thousands you touched. I am so grateful for your kind and gentle ways. Today, the radio was playing “In the Mood.” You were always in the mood to dance and smile and give. We treasure the memories. Your dancing friends and our hubbies. Yours truly, Barbara and Dan McCurdy
