Elvira “Jay” Guerra

Elvira “Jay†Guerra, 78 of Brownsville, Texas entered into eternal rest on March 12, 2022, at Valley Regional Medical Center. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister. 

She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Elvira Saenz; her mother, Alicia Ramirez; two sisters, Rosie Barrios, and Mary Nenque; and one brother, Juan Jose Saenz.

Left to cherish her wonderful memory is her son, Arturo Guerra and daughter-in-law, Eva Guerra; her two grandchildren, Antonio Guerra, and Alyssia Guerra; her siblings, Sylvia Saenz, Diana Sanchez, Martha Agado, Cathy Dillard, Sandra Quintanilla, and Octavio Saenz. 

Throughout her life, Elvira held many positions, including secretary at Brownsville Auto Parts, Financial Aid Officer at the University of Texas at Brownsville, Secretary for St. Eugene de Mazenod Catholic Church, and CCE Coordinator also at St. Eugene de Mazenod Church. One of her most proudest accomplishments was founding and directing the 11:00 AM choir at St. Eugene de Mazenod. Those that knew “Jay” would say that she was a selfless and compassionate person who loved to sing and dance and was always looking for ways to help others above herself. She enjoyed life and always managed to find happiness no matter the situation. Her faith in God was her life, and she lived her life following that faith. 

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 17, 2022, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary being held at 6:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home located at 657 Springmart Blvd. Brownsville, TX 78526. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 18, 2022, at St. Eugene de Mazenod Catholic Church. Inurnment/Interment of Ashes will be held at 1:00 PM at Buena Vista Burial Park located at 5 McDavitt Bld. Brownsville, TX 78521

    My sincere condolences to Arturo and his family. I knew you and your Mom back when you were just a baby. Spent a lot of time with you both back then. Know you are in my thoughts and prayers.
