Viola Sosa Avila

Viola Sosa Avila

Viola Sosa Avila, 69, of Brownsville, TX, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, entered into eternal rest Friday, February 25, 2022, at Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born in San Benito, TX on July 28, 1952.

She is preceded in death by her parents Raul and Josefa Sosa, Spouse Juan de Dios Avila, son Rolando Avila and brother and sister Jose Guadalupe Sosa and Generosa Sosa.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Yessenia Avila; granddaughter Fahtima Avila; brother Raul (Silvia) Sosa and sister-in-law Juanita G. Sosa.

Viola will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.  She loved her family without measure, and God even more so. As a child, she and her family would travel for seasonal work to Ohio and Michigan.  Growing up with two protective older brothers, one would think mischief was not an option, but no, they managed to get away with so many laughs and adventures which became part of our family’s “platicas.†Her family consisted of her cousins, “primos por el lado de Apa y por el lado de Ama.† They were best friends. She loved every single one dearly. Her best friends, the crew from “Las Prietasâ€, the Golden Girls remained in tact until her last day on earth. She married a man from Mexico, and when she met his family, the Avilas from Zacatecas Mexico, it was instant love for both her and them.  She had the best part of her entire life when she had her son Rolando† and her daughter Yessenia.  Life was perfect, until a little girl came to steal the show.  Game over for her children, Fahtima Avila took over…  EVERYTHING.  She was the apple of Viola’s beautiful green eyes.  This remained so until her las breath. Viola worked retail most of her life dedicating 40 years to Wal-Mart until she retired.  The OG’s of the #456 on Mexico Blvd, then onto Alton Gloor.  Her Wal-Mart family wasn’t blood, but boy were they tight. She enjoyed cooking for family and loved to dance “chotises†with Juan de Dios Avila.  Viola loved spending time with family every chance she had-Viola just loved. She enjoyed playing loteria on a regular and also going to Bingo with big brother and sister-in-law.  She suffered devastation to the loss of her parents and especially her son, but always knew God was the one carrying her through the heaviest of life.  Viola believed in God’s promise, so we (her family), know she is dancing on streets of gold, rejoicing with all who went before her, but especially with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022, from 1PM to 8PM with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. A mass will be held at 10AM on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at San Pedro Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 11AM at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Services are under the guidance of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Crematory & Flower Shop.

Omg Viola I will never forget the great memories we had at Walmart 456 on Mexico Blvd. We were like family. Even though some of us went separate ways when we saw each other it was like yesterday. My prayers to your daughter and family. RIP until we see each other again. Always Bert Ramos.
