Josefa “Chepa” C. Martinez

Josefa “Chepa†C. Martinez, 90 years old, was born on October 26, 1931 in Brownsville, Texas. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Chepa was called to heaven on Sunday February 13, 2022 in Brownsville, Texas. Although this is a tragic loss for our family, we know that she is peacefully resting in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. 

She worked for many years at Kress, Sears, Montgomery Wards and spent her last years of employment at St. Joseph Catholic Church. After her retirement, she continued working at the Social Security Office and Friendship of Women through AARP. 

Chepa was also an active parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Chepa and her husband Arnulfo were an integral part in the establishment of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  They were also very involved with the youth of the parish as sponsors of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) and opened their home for gatherings.

She is preceded in death by her husband Arnulfo V. Martinez Sr., parents Jose Angel Campos and Virginia Campos, and brother Eliseo (Chello) Davila. 

Left to cherish her memory are her children Arnulfo Martinez Jr. (Diana), Patricia V. Lozano (Jose Arturo), brother Jose Angel Campos (Estela), sister Virginia Perez (Natanael†), grandchildren Jennifer Lara (Michael), James Edward Martinez (Stephanie), Diana Marie Martinez-Borjas (Richard), Joseph Anthony Martinez (Allison), Arturo Christian Lozano (Janelle), and Marco Alonzo Lozano (Marla).  Nine great grandchildren with one more on the way and one great-great grandchild. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 1PM to 8PM with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9AM on Friday, February 18, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Christian burial will follow at 10AM at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Services are under the guidance of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Crematory & Flower Shop.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
