Gene Novogrodsky (1939-February 12, 2022)

After suffering a stroke, Gene passed quietly at home.

Thinking in a special way of all the students that sat across from Gene, the neighbors whom he blessed with his attention, the many companions of poetry and books all combined in the “slices of Life” that he gave to us all.

Born in Monticello, New York in 1939, Gene attended grade school in New York, Miami. Gene graduated from Miami University in the late 1950’s. He taught in Vermont, Washington D.C., North Carolina, Virginia among others before 30+years in Brownsville.

Gene was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

He leaves his wife Ruth Wagner; daughters Sarah and Miriam; stepdaughters, Jayne, Theresa, and stepson Matthew as well as 11 grandchildren Gabe, Benjamin, Sadie, Kimberly, Sammy, Sarah, Lenny, Eva, Sophie, Nicholas, and Elizabeth.

Rest In Peace, Gene. Ruth, please accept the Hudson Family’s deepest condolences. Gene was a wonderful man who I considered a friend, which was an honor. We had great fun sparring in the Brownsville Herald with our letters to the editor……one would think that we disagreed on everything, but the fact is, we agreed on most things……faith, family, country were our mutual loves and we enjoyed debating politics. The world is worse without Gene amongst the living, but his legacy will live on in all who knew and loved him.
