Peter Avila

Peter Avila, 59, of Brownsville, Texas, devoted husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend entered into eternal rest on December 7, 2021, at Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

He is preceded in death by his father Pete Avila Jr.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Lupita Treviño; mother Elvira Avila; siblings Richard Avila, Loraine Avila, Leonel (Nelda) Avila, Danny (Letty) Avila, and Albert (Melissa) Avila. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Peter Avila served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. A hero who later served our community as an active firefighter/Engineer for the City of Brownsville for over 22 years. Peter was a member of the VFW Post 2035 in Brownsville, Texas which he considered his second home. He was a loving, giving and charismatic invidual who was always willing to help others. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially hosting “carnes asadas.†He will be missed and loved by all his family, friends, peers, and the community he served.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2021, from 1 PM to 8 PM with a firefighter tribute ceremony at 5:30 PM and the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation continues Monday, December 13, 2021, at 12 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be at 2 PM at St. Luke Catholic Church. Interment, military honors, and last call will be at 3 PM at Buena Vista Burial Park.
