Victoria “Vicky” Villarreal

Victoria “Vicky” Villarreal

Victoria “Vicky†Villarreal was laid to rest on Monday December 6, 2021, in Brownsville, Texas at Valley Regional Hospital after battling cancer for three years. Vicky attended the American School in Monterrey, Mexico and received a teaching degree at the Colegio Mexicano, where she made most of her lifelong friends. In 1973, Vicky married her high school sweetheart, Celestino Villarreal Santos. She was an elementary school teacher at the American school for twelve years, before becoming one of the founders and principals of Columbia Institute. Soon after the birth of her only son, she retired from teaching and became a full-time mom. The Villarreal family moved to Brownsville, Texas in 1984. New to Brownsville they did not know anyone but being of very strong faith, she became involved in St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Comunidad AMA. Vicky served as a Eucharist minister at St. Mary’s and group leader of Comunidad AMA for over three decades. Over her time in Brownsville, she was involved in Esposas y Madres Catolicas, Grupo Misiones at St. Joseph Academy, and the Misioneros of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Anyone who met Vicky knew that her smile was infectious. She was an optimist who loved life, the beach, snow skiing, and chocolate. She made friends easily and had many of them all over the world. She enjoyed playing cards, planning events, going to parties, gathering with her friends at brunches and dinners. Vicky was a socialite to say the least but her biggest pride and joy was her loving husband Tino, and her son Tino Jr. Vicky is survived by her husband Celestino Villarreal Santos, her son Celestino Villarreal Escamilla, her sisters Nancy Escamilla and Martha Escamilla, and her brother Tomas Escamilla. She is preceded in death by her mother Victoria Martinez and father Tomas Escamilla Marquez.

Visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Brownsville, Texas on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 5:00pm. A Holy Rosary will begin at 7pm.
