Esteban Castillo

Esteban Castillo, 96, of Brownsville, TX, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, friend and a proud U.S. Army WWII Veteran, entered into eternal rest on July 9, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his sons. He was born in Bishop, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his wife Virginia Ursula Castillo, his mother Guadalupe Zavala Castillo and father German Castillo, his siblings Catarina Castillo, Basilio Castillo, Pedro Castillo, Ramon Castillo, Domitilo Castillo and Clemente Castillo, his daughter Trinidad Castillo Hulings and his great grandson Gabriel Javier Castillo.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons Ernesto Castillo and German Castillo Sr.; grandsons German Jr. (Angela) Castillo, Javier Esteban (Yesenia) Castillo, Fred (Daisy) Board and Luis Alberto Castillo; granddaughters Megan Markita (Alexis) Emperador, Stevie Nicole Hulings and Jacquelynn Marie Hulings; great-grandchildren Rafael Esteban Castillo, Gabriela Castillo, Liam Michael Castillo, Amari Rose Castillo and Riley Board.

Esteban Castillo was a devoted, proud patriot who courageously served his country as an Army Private First Class in World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He enjoyed working as a Sears hardware salesperson for 38 years. He was a loving, caring, funny individual who always cared about everyone’s’ happiness. He will be missed by many, but his sprit will live on through his family.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, July 14th, 2021 for private family from 12:00 noon – 1:00 pm and public viewing from 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm with the recitation of the Holy Rosary service will be held at 7:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 15th at 10:00 am at San Pedro Catholic Church with the burial following after at 11:00 am at San Pedro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be German Castillo Jr., Javier Esteban Castillo, Luis Alberto Castillo, Ernesto Castillo, Fred Board and Mark Hulings. Funeral services have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Crematory & Flower Shop. 657 Springmart Blvd., Brownsville, Texas. (956) 350-8485.

    My condolences to the Castillo family. I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Castillo at Sears in the hardware department. He was a funny and kind man. He was always a happy person. I am honored to have called him my friend and coworker. May he rest in peace.
