Joseph E. Krause

Joseph E. Krause

Joseph E. Krause died on March 28, 2021.  He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1927 and moved to Brownsville in 1977.  He taught high school science at Villa Maria and St. Joseph Academy.  After retiring in 1990, he volunteered at many places around Brownsville, including the Gladys Porter Zoo, Sabal Palm Sanctuary, the Ozanam Center, and the Brownsville Literacy Center and was active in Pax Christi for many years. Solar panels, birds, and dessert were some of his favorite things. He loved his family so much and had a profound faith in God’s plan. He lived a life devoted to advancing causes of peace and justice and care for the earth.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, and daughter, Rachel. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. A private funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brownsville next week.  A Mass celebrating his life, and open to all, will be held at St. Mary’s Church on May 20th — what would have been his 94th birthday. His body will be cremated, and his ashes buried at Calvary Cemetery in St. Paul, Minnesota at a later date. Please make any memorial to a favorite charity of choice.

I have so much love and respect for this man because he inspired me to be a better person. It was an honor to simply have known him, let alone work alongside him during our time in the local Pax Christi group.

I have so much love and respect for this man because he inspired me to be a better person. He is truly salt of the earth. It was an honor to simply have known him let alone work alongside him during our time in the local Pax Christi group which he and Mrs. Krause founded.
