Israel Adolfo Rodriguez

Brownsville resident Israel Adolfo Rodriguez passed away on February 14, 2021, Valentine’s Day. He was 85.

At his request, no service is planned.

Mr. Rodriguez, as he proudly liked to be called by those outside his family, was born on August 19, 1935 at the Rancho Santa Teresa San Fernando, Tamaulipas.

He grew from his humble beginnings, moved to Brownsville in the ‘50s where he met and married his future wife, Graciela Carrejo. They moved to Los Angeles, Ca. where they settled their family, he became a US Citizen and where he began his 30-year career as a warehouseman for Michelin Tire Company. He loved that Company, what it stood for and the opportunities he had there to learn and perform his amazing skills of organization.

Israel loved the LA Dodgers and their announcer Vin Scully, football, camping, Conjunto music especially Narciso Martinez’, who played at his first wedding, talking politics, and proudly letting different candidates place yard signs on his highly visible property, and enjoying a full order of shrimp at the Oyster Bar. His favorite refrain when asked what he was up to was “The same old como se llamaâ€. He had an immense laugh and would practically get whiplash when laughing while recounting a story from his many life experiences. His children will miss his strong and confident spirit, his love and his patriotism to his country.

He is survived by his eight children – (the first four by his first wife; the second half by his third wife Maria) — Noelia Rodriguez, retired BPD Police Chief Orlando (Marcie) Rodriguez, Belinda (Tony) Lomeli, and Adolfo Rodriguez; and by Israel (Rosie) Rodriguez, Jr., Alex (Marie) Rodriguez, Irving and Ian Rodriguez. He also had four grandchildren: Orlando, Victoria, Emily and Gabriel and two great grandchildren, Ethan and Elizabeth. His sister Lucila Treviño of Brownsville, numerous nieces and nephews and his fourth wife, Linda, also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Matilde Ramirez de Rodriguez and Adolfo Rodriguez, and siblings Antonio, Praxedis, Margarita, Alicia, Guadalupe and Irene.

May he have peace in eternal life.
