I want to share this story with your loved ones Ramiro. You were one of the nicest and genuine people on Earth. We went to Olmito school together and you were in my older sister’s class. When Olmito students went to a high school, it changed from San Benito HS to Port Isabel HS. There we played football for the Tarpons. Victor and I didn’t have a car and you went out of your way to drop me off at my house every time. You were a fast runner and they made you a tailback, known today as a running back. We were the only 3 to join the Tarpons from Olmito. Although our football season wasn’t much to speak of at that time under Coach Moses, besides he was tough on all of us. Remembering the Tarpons’ stadium, now demolished, no one wanted to get tackled and land on the grass full of stickers. We probably plucked more stickers out of skins than there are stars. But truly, I am saddened to hear you left, but you are not forgotten my friend even our departure, you to LFHS and me, to BHS. May God through Jesus Christ comfort the Cortez family of their personal loss and these troubled times.
