It is a sad day, indeed, when we have to say good bye to Dr. Kuri, “Chepe”, as so many of his friends called him. Chepe was a colleague of my father, a loyal and devoted friend until life separated them. Dr. Kuri was an icon in our house, highly respected for his integrity, keen intellect, people skills and impressive medical knowledge.
Dr. Kuri was always interested in all of humanity: its social problems, its economic hardships and its public health conditions. Wherever he was, he volunteered his time and energy selflessly.
Dr. Kuri was a family man, taking care of his wife and always encouraging his children to succeed. Brownsville and the Kuri family will miss him. We will all miss him. May he rest in peace.

It was a pleasure to work alongside Dr. Kuri at STRH. I always looked for most to his stories that began something like, “In 1956 in El Salvador we have cared for this patient like this….” He would then share his extensive personal experience in neurologic history including what we were going to do for the patient in present day and why with all the intervening changes in care driven by research and discoveries he had often participated in himself. But above all he taught me to listen carefully to my patients. “They will tell you the answer.”

Don Chepe was a great person that oriented, motivated me as well as gave great advice. He was a person that got interested and helped others without condition.

We will miss him greatly but his presence, teachings and legacy will always be with us, through fis family. In my case specially with my brother José Miguel.

Si sorry that with pandemia we are not able to share with his family this very important part of our lives. But resta assure that we are with all of you spiritually.

    See you soon Don Chepe.

    Querida Familia Kuri,

Dr Kuri was much more than our colleague He was our friend and mentor. He was the voice of reason when there was turmoil, he was the light when the world was dark. He would make us smile with his stories and humor. He was a writer of short stories and author as well. He loved his family, his work, his patients and his friends and we all loved him back. He will be sorely missed but his essence lives forever in our memory
Condolences to the family. God Bless

Dr. Kuri was always a fatherly figure to me his son José is like a brother to me.

I will always be grateful for his love and wisdom. His advice in life and politics guided me through difficult times as he was a reference when hard decisions were to be made for the good of the country and the Salvadorean people.

May he rest in peace with the knowledge of mission acomplished as a father, a patriot, and as a man of good!

My deepest condolences to Dr. Kuri’s family. I was blessed to have known him and to have called him my friend and colleague. I’m appreciative to him for having gifted me one of his signed books “The Spine at Trial”. The world has lost an exceptional human being and a true Physician like no other. A real champion of excellence in healthcare and medicine.

I had the good fortune of knowing this great man for the last 3-4 decades , as a colleague and friend. He was one of the few people in whom I found it hard to find a flaw. Excellent neurosurgeon, sincere humanitarian , friend and guide. He also was a raconteur extraordinaire , with a uniquely endearing sense of humor . This he expressed in the delightful stories he wrote and shared with us all , about things we all experienced together , but only he could point them out and make us smile.
    He will be missed.
May God bless his soul and may he Rest In Peace
