Elma Atkinson-Barajas, 56, of Brownsville, Texas devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, entered into eternal rest on July 17, 2020 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville surrounded by her loving family. She was born in H. Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico on December 21, 1963.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Jose Israel Barajas; parents Rene and Altagracia Atkinson; children, Abigail Barajas, Edna (Carlos) Arizpe, Israel Barajas, Julian Flores; siblings, Rene (Olivia) Atkinson, Justo (Nora) Atkinson, Jesus (Ruth) Atkinson, Eddie (Sylvia) Atkinson, Elsa Atkinson, Saul (Claudia) Atkinson, Celeste (Henry) Hernandez, Josue (Briana) Atkinson, Alejandro Ramirez; grandchild Carlos Isaiah Arizpe; nieces and nephews, Debbie Atkinson, Esteban (Judy) Atkinson, Vivianne Atkinson, Christine Atkinson, Leslie Atkinson, Karen Atkinson, Leslie Atkinson, Adrian Atkinson, Victoria Atkinson, Miranda Atkinson, Valerie Atkinson, Vanessa Atkinson, Vianey Atkinson, Danny Flores, Leinady (Jesse) Estrada, Kenny Atkinson, Ryan Atkinson, Celeste Eliana Rangel, J.J. Her light has extinguished in the vessel that was her body, but it has also lit inside of all of us who will continue to carry her memory. We know she will be with us always, and her light will continue to burn in our hearts.
Elma was a strong woman of faith. She was a loving person that would be there for you if you needed her. She devoted her life to God and her family.
The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 with a prayer service at 9:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with burial to follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens at 10:00 AM.
