John B. Herton Jr.

John B. Herton Jr.

John B. Herton Jr., born on October 2nd, 1923 entered into the glory of his eternal life on Sunday, December 8th, 2019.  He was ninety-six years of age.

John Bruce was the poster boy of the Greatest Generation.    He was humble, modest, generous, loyal, discipline, and committed. He always made sure his family had all its needs met and more. Besides being a loving human being, he will give to his wife and sons all the material things in life that he did not have while he was growing up during the Depression. His method was simple, he taught us by example; he was strong in spirit and body.

When his nation demanded, he enlisted in the Armed Forces and on went to fight the Axis of Evil during the 2nd Great War with great honor earning the Marine Emblem as well as the Pacific War Zone Emblem.  After the war, he joined the Merchant Marines where he worked for over 50 years going to all the wars and conflicts the USA was involved delivering needed supplies to the fighting men and women.

His beloved wife Elena Herton; his parents John Herton and Sarah Ward; one sister, Patricia; and his son Kenneth Herton, preceded his death.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his son John his wife Olga; grandchildren Valeria, Ilka, and Kenneth; and great-grandchild Johnny all of whom he loved so much.

His last wishes were to be buried at the sea.

“Alone I Will Not Beâ€

My comfort will come from the sea.

The stillness of calm waves will gently drift by, and I will be as one with the sea.

When the sun sets on the ocean blue,

Remember me as I will always remember you.

As the sun rises…go live life as full as can be.

Apart…you and me

But be at peace for I am free

Capt, Chad Theesfeld
