Mercedes Loza Gracia went to be with the Lord on Thursday, the 31st of October 2019 at the age of 91. She was born on June 19, 1928 in Brownsville, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Martin Gracia, and her parents, Jose
Loza and Viviana Esquivel.
She is survived by her children: Alfredo Rodriguez, R. Guadalupe, Lupita (Juan)
Rosas, Ramiro (Alicia) Gracia, Rose Mary Guajardo, Antonio (Alicia) Gracia,
Armando (Blanca) Gracia, David Gracia, Alberto Gracia, and Alicia Gracia.
Twenty-five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
After high school, Mercedes was a paraprofessional at the first elementary
school in Olmito. She was a lifelong parishioner of Our Heavenly Father
Catholic Church, and for many years, she served as the food distributor for the
residents in Olmito. Mercedes was very active in politics, always calling and
urging members of the community to vote. She loved her family, adored her
best friend, Sofia Atkinson, and appreciated her friends; amongst all, she
cherished her children. Mercedes, along with her wonderfully eccentric,
charming, and colorful sense of humor will be greatly missed.
The family would like to express their gratitude to her grandson, Johnny, her
home health providers, Alma Garza and Norma Lara for helping ensure her
comfort, Gloria Martinez from Alpine Day Care Center and the staff at Sunshine
Haven for her hospitality and kindness.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2019 from 1 to 9 PM with the
recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home &
Crematory-Flower Shop. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 4, 2019 at
12 PM at Our Heavenly Father Catholic Church with burial to follow at 1:00 PM
Buena Vista Burial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ramiro Gracia, Antonio Gracia, David Gracia,
Armando Gracia, Johnny Guajardo and Christopher Gracia.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Martin Gracia, Michael Gracia, Leroy Gonzalez,
Alfonso Gonzalez, and William Flores.
Services are under the guidance of Sunset Memorial funeral Home & Crematory-Flower Shop.
