Esther G. Chavez

Esther G. Chavez, beloved mother, sister, and grandmother entered into internal rest on March 27, 2019 at Valley Regional Hospital in Brownsville, Texas, surrounded by her family.   Esther was born in Weslaco, Texas on January 20, 1930.  She is preceded in death by her daughter, Maria Angelica “Angie†Chavez-Trevino, husband, Luciano Chavez, Sr., brother George Garza, and parents, Federico and Carolina Garza.   

Esther is survived by her son, Luciano (Magdalena) Chavez, Jr., daughter, Teresa A. Chavez, granddaughters, Katarina Chavez, Ale Chavez, Gaby Chavez, and grandsons, Memphis Trevino and Diego Chavez.  She is also survived by her cherished sisters, Gregoria Cantu and Pita Villarreal, numerous nephews and nieces, and grand-dog, Luka “Kiddo†Chavez.       

Esther was a teacher for numerous years at J.T. Canales Elementary School and Garden Park Elementary School.  She loved to sing and dance and would do so at any given moment.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Federico Cantu, Jr., George Garza, Jr., Mark Trevino, and Ricardo “Dickie†Villarreal.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 29, 2019 from 1:00 – 9:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. A mass will be held Saturday, March 30, at 9:00 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Services will conclude at the end of the mass. Funeral services have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. 657 Springmart Blvd. 956-350-8485
