Richard Allen Moore

Richard Allen Moore

Richard Allen Moore, 89, of Bayview, Texas, passed away, Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Richard was born December 2, 1929, in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Murl and Jessie Moore. As a young man and in his early adulthood, Richard lived a hardworking life, raising a family with his first wife Joyce, running a stock car racing track and a Gamble’s Hardware Store, among other things.  On June 19, 1971, he married the love of his life, Patricia Kay Belfy, in Petoskey, Michigan, and established the ‘yours, mine and ours’ family. Soon after, the Moore family relocated to South Texas, and Richard and Patricia bought a piece of property in Brownsville, where they made a home for their family. He was employed as the business manager of the Camille Lightner Playhouse for many years before establishing himself in Bayview as ‘The Sandman’ in 1989, by building a business of providing construction soil to commercial and private businesses.   He enjoyed this work very much, and he could often be found driving a front-end loader or a backhoe around ‘The Pit,’ as the property is affectionately known. Richard only ‘retired’ when it became too difficult for him to climb up into the cabs of his machines, but he remained involved in the operations as his son Shannon assumed responsibilities of the business. He also enjoyed reading, collecting items such as coins and model cars, and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren whenever he could.

Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Moore; daughters Linda Smith, Erica Urbina, Suzanne (Terry) Hall, and Donna (John) Olvera; sons Richard (Janet) Moore, Shannon (Cindy) Moore, and Gary (Rose) Falting; a sister May Edington; and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. His parents Murl and Jessie Moore, and a brother, Frank Moore, preceded him in death.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards Roy Ramos for his gentle care of Richard as his caregiver for the last five years, as well as his business associate and friend, Ismael Rodriguez. A special thank you to Dr. Rolando Posada and the staff at Calidad Home Health and Hospice for their loving attention and support during his final years.Richard was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to all, and he will be missed profoundly. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematorium of Brownsville. In honor of his wishes, Richard’s ashes will be spread amongst several locations he held dear. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at his beloved Community of Christ Church in Los Fresnos.
