Alfredo “Al” Gutierrez

Alfredo “Al†Gutierrez, 77, of Brownsville, Texas, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, entered into eternal rest on February 25, 2019 at Spanish Meadows surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Brownsville, Texas on November 28, 1941.

He is preceded in death by his parents Federico and Concepcion Gutierrez, siblings Genaro, Armando and Juan Gutierrez. Left to cherish his memory is his everlasting love Olivia Gutierrez of 48 years, his children Velma Cristela (Greg, Mia and Melanie), Alfred, and Al (Jenni). Also, his grandchildren Eric, Alma, Lilian, Nikki, Alyssa, Daniel “Nemo”, Aaliyah, Logan, Olivia, and Alfred Jr. His great grandchildren Alexandra, Deven, Monserrat, and Luna; brother Federico Gutierrez Jr., and his sister Gregoria Shephard. Al served his country in the Vietnam War, he also served his community as a police office and then detective. After 20 of service to Brownsville PD, he worked for the next 10 years at the Sheriff Department as a Lieutenant in the jail division.

Interment of cremated remains will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, TX. Celebration of Life will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. with a chapel service at 2:30 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 2035.
