Raquel S. Newell, 87, of Brownsville Texas, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, entered into eternal rest on November 1, 2018 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Brownsville, Texas on April 10, 1931.
She is preceded in death by her parents Arturo Serrata and Herlinda Gomez Serrata; husband Clarence M. Newell; sons Daniel M. Newell and John Joe Newell; siblings Arturo Serrata Jr., Arnoldo Serrata, Arnulfo Serrata, Esperanza Serrata Guerra and Hector Serrata.
Left to cherish her memory is her children Diana Newell Brookover (Jesse), Perla Newell Gutierrez (Alfonso); siblings Alicia S. Gorena, Esther Sanchez, Lionel Serrata; grandchildren James Brookover, Andrew (Pricilla) Gutierrez, Aaron Gutierrez, Ashley Gutierrez; great grandson Ezra James Gutierrez.
Raquel was one of nine children. She was a prayer intercessor, a devout wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was married to Clarence Newell for 51 years. Her great faith in God is what sustained her.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory. A chapel service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory with burial to follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Familia Newell, cuanto lo siento por su pérdida. La muerte de un ser querido puede ser tan doloroso que nos deja un vacío en el corazón. Pero, sabía que en la Biblia hallamos consuelo y una esperanza para los muertos? En Hechos 24:15, leemos que habrá una Resurrección para los muertos. También en Revelación 21:4, leemos que Dios nos promete una vida mejor en un futuro cercano. Espero que estas palabras les hayan servido de consuelo. Los ánimo repasar estos textos cuando tengan tiempo.
