DEANTIN OSCAR GUERRA, JR.

August 16, 1939——October 25th, 2018

 

Mr. Deantin Oscar Guerra, Jr. went Home to be his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 25, 2018 at his residence. He was 79 years of age. He was a great Servant of God, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a good friend to everyone he met. His smile will be truly missed.

Mr. Guerra was born on August 16, 1939 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was preceded by death of his father, Mr. Deantin O. Guerra, Sr., and his mother, Mrs. Juanita Caceres Guerra.

He was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas and came to Brownsville, Texas in 1975. He came as the Manager of the Sportsman Centers of Texas, Inc., located in the brand-new mall, Amigoland Mall. He became co-owner of the Sport’s International stores, in Brownsville’s Amigoland Mall.

On October of 1984, he became the administrator for Puentes de Cristo, Inc. a Border Ministry of the Presbyterian Church of the United States of America. He worked for this organization for ten years to the day. On October of 1994, he founded and was the Executive Director of Faith Ministry / Ministerio de Fe, Inc. Faith Ministery / MDF, Inc. is a ministry based on the Love, Compassion and Mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. This ministry does mission work in Reynosa And Miguel Aleman, Tamps, Mexico. They build houses, churches, clinics, special school projects and provide educational scholarships for children, youth and adults to assist them with their school expenses.

Mr. Guerra was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of the United States of America for many years. He was ordained as a Ruling Elder on December 26, 1965. He was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Los Ebanos Road, Brownsville, until December of 2006. There he served Elder, member of the budget Committee; Member of the worship committee; member of the choir and served as a Sunday school teacher. He was elected Moderator of Del Salvador Presbytery, now Mission Presbytery, in 1976-1977. He was also elected as a delegate to the General Assembly of the PCUSA in June 1984 held in Phoenix, Arizona. He was also a member of the San Pablo Presbyterian church, Brownsville where he served in different positions. He was also involved in the Hispanic work of the Presbyterian church of the Rio Grande Valley.

On October 2007, he became the founder/emeritus Director of Faith Ministry. MDF, Inc. In this position, he was able to travel and make fund raising presentations, visited churches, for the work of our ministry. He served in this position until God ‘’called him home.’’

On February of 2008, he became a member of Central Christian Church on Alton Gloor and was baptized by immersion. At his new beloved Church, he served as elder, member of the mission Committee, member of the choir and was a faithful worshiper at the Sunday AM traditional service and Sunday School class. He truly found ‘’spiritual peace’’ and felt the love of Jesus at his new church and looked forward to attending each and every week. His church family was very special to him.

Mr. Guerra loved his lord and savior Jesus Christ and shared his love with everyone he met. He Loved his family and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were all his ‘’pride joy’’. Family was an important part of his life. He loved sports, all kind! His favorite teams were ‘’THE DALLAS COWBOYS’’

Mr. Guerra was a retired army reservist with over 21 years of service. His rank at the time of his retirement was staff Sargent.

Left to cherish his memory and celebrate his life are: His wife of 59 years, Mrs. Lidia M. Guerra. Two sons: Richard David Guerra (Janie) of San Antonio, Texas and Joseph Dean Guerra (Sandra) of McAllen, Texas. One daughter: Annette Louise Guerra-Renaud (Damon) of Garland, Texas. One Brother: Ricardo Nicolas Guerra, Sr. (Helen) from Richland, Washington; four sisters: Hilda Garza (Eddie+) of San Antonio, Texas; Bertha Martinez (Juan Francisco Martinez) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Victoria Guerra and Elizabeth Guerra, both of Mesquite, Texas; grandchildren: Serrina-Jo Sunshine Guerra, Samantha-Jo Rainbow Guerra and Sierra-Jo Summer Guerra from McAllen, Texas. Anita Nicole Renuad; Sarah (Keith) Kenefake from Garland, Texas; Gus Renaud and Michelle Santarre from Canterbury, Connecticut. Great-grand children: Immajin from Canterbury, CT., Dean Kenefake and Lilly Kenefake from Garland, Texas. Additional survivors include relatives and friends from Corpus Christi, Texas and staff members of faith ministry/MDF, Inc. and many brothers/sisters in Christ from Reynosa and Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas, Mexico.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at Central Christian Church (1100 E Alton Gloor Blvd, Brownsville, TX 78526). Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Park (2731 Comanche St, Corpus Christi, TX 78408)

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Richard D. Guerra, Joseph D. Guerra, Damon Guerra, David Hughton and Darak Weaver.

The family is asking, in lieu flowers, donations be made to faith ministry/MDF, Inc., P. O. box 756, McAllen, Texas, 78501  in honor of Mr. Guerra.

Mr. Guerra’s goal throughout his life was: ‘’MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN HIS NAME AND FOR HIS GLORY’’

    We have loved serving the Lord along with you, this side of heaven, my brother. It has been a great pleasure & a privelege to do so. And it has been a blessing for many of us to enjoy your zeal for the Lord & your wonderful infectious smile!
    You have fought the good fight & have finished the race. Thank you for your great example of what it means to be a servant of God, a lover of Christ, a loving husband, a great father, & a great friend. We love you & we’ll see you in heaven.
