Jay Gregory Thomas

Jay Gregory Thomas, 82, of Port Isabel passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at his residence while surrounded by his loving family. Jay was born March 25, 1936 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. While serving his country as part of the United States Army he met and then later married in 1957, the love of his life, Dolores
(Dee) Julia Sadofski. Together they built a life and raised a family in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Jay and Dee with their hard work also built and ran the very successful business A-1 Concrete and Block, located in Old Bridge, New Jersey. In 1989 they decided to retire early and relocate to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to serve as their new home base, so they could travel and sightsee throughout the country. On one of their travels to Texas they visited Port Isabel and knew immediately this was where they wanted to live. Jay and Dee bought a home in Port Isabel in 2005. Jay enjoyed fishing, snow skiing, and dancing, but most of all he enjoyed the company of his many friends and family members. Jay will always be remembered as someone that consistently put the concerns of others above those of his own. His smile could light up a room and his sincerity was, without exception, thought of as comforting and genuine by everyone.
Jay is survived by his loving wife Dolores, his three devoted children, Jay Thomas Jr. of Las Vegas, NV; Sheree Wood of Port Isabel, TX; and Taryn Bower of Dallas, TX. Jay is also survived by his two caring grandchildren, Esther and David Bower, who he adored.

The family has planned a Mass at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel on Saturday, June 16th at 10:00 A.M. It will be followed by a Celebration of the Life of Jay Thomas to be held at the Isla Grand Hotel Quarterdeck Lounge that evening at 7:30 P.M. On Sunday morning the family will have a ceremony to scatter his ashes at sea at 10:00 and is open to friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for a contribution to the American Cancer Society.
