Rubén Benavides

Rubén Benavides

Ruben Benavides Sr. passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 11, 2018 surrounded by his wife and children.

Ruben will be remembered for  his talent, humor, and body of work that is his legacy. He was an entertainment and media pioneer in the Rio Grande Valley, South Texas and Mexico — a writer and actor in Mexican cinema, broadcaster, television show host, and a fixture of Brownsville’s historic Charro Days celebrations.

His lasting legacy, however will be the large and loving family who share his name, and whose contributions in the fields of journalism, broadcast, education, music, art, literature, public service, and more, have ensured that he will always be remembered.

The Benavides family asks for prayers for Ruben’s wife Margarita, and our family, that we may have peace at this difficult time. And for Ruben, that he may rest and be reunited in heaven with his children, Martha, Efrain, Pedro, and Carlos; siblings Ruben, Pedro, Lydia, Consuelo, Esperanza, Dora and his parents Pedro and Eustolia Benavides, who preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Margarita Benavides; children Ruben Jr., Fernando, Mario, Samuel, Laura, Marisela, Roberto, Arturo, Raul, Ricardo, Martha, Jorge, Eustolia Veronica, Victor, Karina, Dario, Efrain, Adriana Benavides and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Chapel service will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with burial to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park, 26170 Texas 345, San Benito, Texas 78586.
