Esteban G. “Steve” Lopez

Esteban G. Lopez, or Steve, as he was known to many, was born in Brownsville, Texas on October 21, 1944 and passed away peacefully in his home with family on October 9, 2017.
Esteban was the beloved patriarch of his large family and was admired by many as a husband, father, brother, and hardworking renaissance man. He was preceded in death by parents, Esteban C. Lopez and Felipa G. Peña; step-father, Antonio S. Peña Jr.; sister, Irma L. Vasquez; and mother-in-law Consuelo T. McClain. He is survived by wife, Diana McClain Lopez; daughter, Veronica Rebecca Lopez; sons, Esteban Antonio Lopez (Tara), Jaime Lopez (Dawn Robertson), and Adrian Lopez (Josette Rice); grandchildren, Joshua Garrick Munn (Hannah Oman-Munn), Hannah Katherine Lopez, Richard de los Santos (Stephanie), Stephanie Alexandria Lopez, Andrew Jorel Lopez, William Darius Lopez; great grandchildren Hanna Elise Creel, Garrick Neal Munn, Julian de los Santos, Serene de los Santos, Hazel de los Santos, and Noah de los Santos; and siblings, Tita Lopez, Ruben Peña, and Reynaldo Peña (Letty); as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Esteban was known for his complete devotion to his loving wife Diana. Having fallen in love at first sight as teenagers, Esteban would famously walk across town, rain or shine, to see his baby doll, as he often referred to her, until they were married. They were each other’s one and only love throughout their 51-year marriage. He was equally devoted to the four beautiful children that they had together and dedicated his life to being a provider for his family. Esteban also remained deeply connected to his siblings throughout his life, as well as his extended family and friends. He never met a stranger and will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Esteban was also a faithful servant of God. Having worked as a welder for over 40 years at Brown & Root, Union Carbide, and OxyChem, Esteban was always highly respected for his work ethic and skill level. He also put his skills in metalwork to use in countless creative projects, in which his passion for the craft was always evident. All three of his sons share his love of metalwork and followed in his footsteps and became welders as well.
There will be a memorial service held on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory. “He stopped loving her today” was one of my Suegro’s favorite songs. Now it’s truly his song. His love of music was loving shared with my children. I’ll never forget the day we told him he’d be a Grandfather. The love & joy was evident in his smile that went from ear to ear. He immediately designed & built the best cradle as he hoped 9 months would fly by. He will be greatly missed.

Estimada familia Lopez.
