Gaspar De Leon, 85, of Brownsville, Texas passed away on August 14, 2017 at his residence. He was born on July 22, 1932 in Brownsville, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Paula Valdez De Leon; son Jose Pablo Solis; parents Gaspar and Rosa De Leon, and 1 great grandson Liam Matthew Villarreal.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Maggie (Carlos) Castro, Gaspar (Betty) De Leon, Manuel De Leon, Rosa (Cris) Navarro, 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, caregiver Porfiria Rios, and numerous brothers and sisters. Our dad was a graduate of Saint Joseph Academy. He went on to serve in the USAF during the Korean War. He later became a teacher at Stell Middle School for many years. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather who cared for our mom during her 12-year battle with Alzheimer’s. He will be greatly missed and forever be in our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17 and Friday, August 18, 2017 from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Cathedral with burial to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Pallbearers will be Gaspar De Leon III, Manuel De Leon, Carlos Castro, Carlos Castro Jr., Cris Navarro, Cris Navarro Jr., and Quirino Garza.     To my dear cousins. I am sorry for y’alls loss. I know it can’t be easy losing another parent, but but he is with Tia now and with God above. He’s in a better place now. Tio Jr was a good man and he loved you all with all his heart just as he loved you all’s mother. Never forget that.
