We celebrate the life of Maria “Nena†R. Torres, 88, who went to be with our Lord on Thursday, August 10, 2017. She passed away peacefully at home in the presence of her loving family. Nena is preceded in death by her mother, maternal grandparents, her aunt “Madrina†and uncles who help raise her; her brother Carlos Rodriguez and sister Aurora Rodriguez de Guerrero.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 53 years Jose M. Torres; her children Maria C. Palomo (Juan), Mercedes Guzman (Santiago Jr.), Florencio Torres (Maria Luisa Ramirez).  Also to treasure her many memories are her brothers Miguel A. Rodirugez (Angelina) and Pedro Guzman (“Tia Mongaâ€); her grandchildren Sergio Soto Jr. (Ana Flores), Joseph M. Soto (Holly Johnson-Soto), and Kevin Gomez Alexandra Torres, Melina Torres, Florencio Torres III, Christopher Ramirez,Gabriela Guzman, Santiago Guzman III, Alejandra Guzman; her beloved great grandchildren Skye K. Soto, Kira E. Soto, Noey K. Soto, and Gabriel U. Soto; Her many nieces and nephews who she adored from the day she laid eyes on them, friend and extended family.Nena took great pride in being a wonderful mother and homemaker.  She learned to appreciate a passion for sewing at an early age from her Aunt “Madrinaâ€.  She enjoyed making dresses for her nieces, which were her first models.  She moved on to make all kinds of dresses for her daughters, nieces, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters. There was never anything she couldn’t sew.Nena enjoyed cooking and baking for her family.  Her banana nut bread and carrot cake were her trademarks.  She had a knack for creativity and experimenting in the kitchen and helping us try it. She loved to relax by up keeping her garden and fruit trees. Anyone who ever visited her backyard would know they were no long in a back yard, but a jungle. And when she wasn’t up keeping her yard, nature walks with her family, fishing with dad, she would sing and dance along all music genre in tranquility of her home.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory. There will be a funeral mass held on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. (956) 350-8485

    Estimada familia Rodriguez-Torres. Nada es comparable al profundo dolor de perder a un ser querido. Se siente un vacio y una tristeza muy grande pero podemos encontrar consuelo en el mensaje de la biblia. El salmista imploro a Dios: “Sirva tu bondad amorosa por favor, para consolarme” (Sal. 119:76). Una manera muy destacada como nuestro Padre celestial nos conforta es dandonos animo y guia. El Salmo 119:105 dice que su palabra es una lampara y una luz que ilumina nuestro camino. Le animamos a encontrar consuelo en el mensaje de la biblia.
