Katie Jane Jones Garza, 92, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Valley Regional Medical Center. She is preceded in death by her husband Guadalupe; brother Sam Jones; son Joey, and her daughter Cindy. Her surviving children are Mary Jane (Bob) Huston, Robert (Bertha), William (Marilyn), John Garza, Linda (Ruben) Rodriguez, Roy Garza, Debbie (Jeff) Alford, and 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with burial to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Janie was a good friend and mentor to me when I was a nurse’s aide at Brownsville Medical Center. I credit her for teaching me the caring side of nursing by modeling compassion and diligence with her patients and friendship. She also saw humor in a lot of things and made a dreary thankless job more meaningful. I will remember her kindness and smile.
