Maria C. “Lupita” Perez

Maria C. “Lupita” Perez

Maria C. “Lupita” Perez entered unto eternal rest at the age of 69 early Thursday morning surrounded by her loving family. Lupita was born to Praxedis and Sara Cisneros and was raised in Brownsville, Texas. She graduated from Brownsville High School in 1967 before it became Hanna High School. Lupita would later venture and take some college classes at Texas Southmont College. She worked in sales, at the National Bank of Commerce, and most recently at and where she retired from the Cameron County Adult Probation Office. Her work ethic was commendable to say the least, and she was always encouraging her nieces and nephews to find a job they liked and to do their best to be successful at it.
Lupita was a ‘spring chicken’ when at the age of thirty she met and married her soul mate Amalio Perez with whom she remained happily married to for thirty-nine years. Although they had no children of their own, together, Lupita and Amalio were more than happy to witness the Catholic marriages of many of their nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. They also had the honor to baptize many of them as well. A ‘Social Butterfly’ Lupita loved life, and truly enjoyed living it to the fullest. She and Amalio belonged to the Mr. and Mrs. Club and reveled in many of their functions. She was a wonderful hostess, a great cook and baker, and had an affinity for a good card game. She never said no to Vegas but was just as happy playing Bunco with her friends as she was playing the slot machines.
Lupita was a kind-hearted human being who loved serving her neighbors in Christ. She helped with the collection at St. Mary’s on Sunday mornings, and was quick to whip up a batch of cupcakes to help the alter servers when they need them. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters and the Red Hatters Club as well. Lupita began her battle with cancer fourteen months ago. She bore her illness with an unfathomable attitude, one of a true warrior of Christ. Seeing her sit there, strong in face and spirit amidst this heavy trial was beautiful to say the least, a memorable and profound example of faith to her family and friends. Lupita is survived by her loving husband Amalio Perez, eight brothers and sisters: Manuel (Carolina) Cisneros, Humberto (Delfina †) Cisneros, Maria (Hector) Cantu, Gloria (Carlos) Ayala, Minerva (Oscar) Cantu Sr., Celedina Cisneros, Praxedis Cisneros jr., and last but not least her angel of a twin sister, Sarah Lilia Cisneros.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with the recitation of the Holy Rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14th, 2017, at Mary Mother of Church, 1914 Barnard Road. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers are: Cris Cisneros jr., Stephen Cisneros, Jacob Cisneros, Marcus Ayala, Rolando Flores jr., & David Cantu. Honorary pallbearers are: Cris Cisneros, Humberto Cisneros, Manuel Jaime Cisneros, Rolando Flores Sr., Oscar Cantu jr., Hector Cantu jr., David Ayala, Cesar Carlos Ayala, David Jacob Cantu, Nathan Cantu, Andrew Cantu, Cesar Ayala jr., David Ayala jr., Angel Ayala jr., and Caleb Ayala.

At the end of every day, as a good person rests, he or she asks, “Have I done enough to help others today? Did I make the world at least a little bit better?” Tia Lupita did make this world a much better place. She loved her husband Amalio, twin sister Lela, her brothers Meme, Beto, and Prax other sisters Cela, Maria, Sylvia, and Minerva with all her heart. She loved her nieces, nephews, and other family members as if they were her own children. Tia Lupita loved, supported, and encouraged all of us to do our best at all times. She never failed us in any way. She greeted us with warm hugs, sweet kisses, and told us how proud she was of us. She had a wonderful life here on earth with the love of her life Tio Amalio and all of us. She is the best example of a wonderful, decent, kind, loving person that I can think of. We love you! ❤
