June C. Gloor

June C. Gloor

June C. Gloor, 92, passed away peacefully at her home on January 9, 2017.
She was born August 14, 1924 in Stringtown, OK to John Robert and Maud M. Vittetoe. As a small child, she moved with her family to La Villa, TX and graduated from Edcouch Elsa High School. She married Alton Gloor on December 29, 1947 and together they had four children: John, twins Les and Len, and Ruth. Her husband, Alton and sons John and Len preceded her in death. She is survived by son Les (Chris) Gloor of Brownsville, daughter Ruth (Brandon) Jamail of Magnolia, TX, Daughters in law Cathy Gloor of Brownsville and Brenda Gloor of Denton, TX and six grandchildren, Charles, Brian, Ashley, Chelsey, Taylor and Camryn.
June loved to travel but only by car, not planes. After the death of her husband in 1985, she and her friends would take month long vacations to see the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls or just to watch the leaves change colors. She said she had driven in 49 of the 50 states, only lacking Hawaii.
She loved to entertain, especially during the Christmas Season. She decorated her house to the fullest including her beloved Snow Village. Her favorite party was the “Widows Party†she threw in early December each year where widowed and divorced women were the only invitees.
Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 657 Springmart Blvd., Brownsville, Texas, 78526. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 450 Palm Blvd., Brownsville, Texas, 78520.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers a memorial donation be made to First Presbyterian Church or the donor’s charity of choice.

As I’m writing this small farewell note of one the most loving and caring person I got to meet almost 2 years ago Mrs. June Gloor. Tears roll down my cheeks just remembering the weekends we spent together, where we talked about so many beautiful things which I will cherish in my heart forever, we laughed and we even cried together. Thank you for all those beautiful words of wisdom you told me. Please accept my sincere condolences to all the GLOOR FAMILY.

The Blackburn family extends their sincerest condolences to the Gloor family. June was an amazing person, friend, and community leader. Few families saw the future growth and housing needs of Brownsville like the Gloor family. With June as their matriarch, they have left a lasting imprint on the future landscape of our city. Although we are greatly sadden by her passing we take comfort in knowing that June, Al, John, & Lynn are having a blessed reunion in Heaven.
