Victor Manuel Madrid

Victor Manuel Madrid

Los Fresnos, Tx — Victor Manuel Madrid, 80, affectionately known as “Tio†entered into eternal rest on December 21, 2016 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, following a brief illness. Victor was born on April 14, 1936 and raised in Olanchito, Honduras, Central America

In his early years, Victor worked for the Standard Fruit Company in Honduras, a fruit shipping company.  He worked in the banana shipping department.  He also worked on his parent’s farm during his years there.   Around 1991, Victor came to the United States to live with his sister, Francisca M. Bower (deceased) and his nieces in Port Isabel until the family moved to Harlingen.  He later established permanent residence in Los Fresnos, Texas.

Victor was a man of simple interests and words. Tio could best be described as hard working, devoted to his faith and family.  He had a passion for animals, especially his horses on his parent’s farm and the family pets Elena, shih tzu, and Molly and Sniper, bulldogs.  He devoted his attention to working a garden or in the yard and was proud of being able to maintain this passion up until his recent illness.  He had a knack to keep things growing and enjoyed being outdoors.  He loved his cup of coffee, a good piece of cornbread or pan dulce, and BBQ cookouts.

Tio is preceded in death by his parents Santos Cruz and Lucila Madrid; a brother, Vicente Madrid; a nephew, Oscar Soto and a sister, Francisca M. Bower.

He leaves behind his two nieces, Bridgette Lucila Bower (Saul Trevino) of Harlingen and Eva Bower (Lonnie) Lopez of Los Fresnos.  Victor watched over his nieces as a father would.  He prayed for them daily and enjoyed spending as much time as he could with them.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 26, 2016 at 9:00am at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.

Pallbearers will be Pedro Lopez, Jr., David G. Lopez, Joe Jimenez, Francisco Quiroz, Adrian Paredes and Ricardo Gonzales.  Honorary pallbearers will be Saul Trevino and Lonnie Lopez.
