Daniel Garcia


Daniel Garcia, 73, born February 20, 1943 was privileged to meet his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ as he passed from this world on December 12, 2016. He was the light, smile and heart to his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends.
He graduated from Brownsville High School in 1961 and graduated from the University of Texas Pan American. He and his wife owned and operated Wicks ‘n’ Sticks and The Depot luggage and gift stores. He served on various merchants’ associations and on the Child Welfare Board. Daniel was a member of Primera Iglesia Presbiteriana and served as a Deacon several years prior. He is survived by his wife Celia Yolanda Vera Garcia and by his two sons Dalbert, Daniel Alberto and his wife Maria Teresa Garcia, and their children Allen and Matthew. He is also survived by his brothers Tomas, Celso and his wife Natalia, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.Daniel fought a brave ten year battle with cancer in Brownsville and at MD Anderson in Houston. The family would like to thank Dr. Luis Robles, Dr. Balesh Sharma and their wonderful staff, and Safe Haven Hospice, including his nurses Leonel and Jacob for the excellent care they provided to Daniel.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, December 15th, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory from 1–7 p.m. with a prayer service from 7 – 8 p.m. On Friday, December 16, 2016 visitation will be at Primera Iglesia Presbiteriana, 616 E. Jefferson St., Brownsville 78520, from 9 to 11 AM; prayer service @ 11 AM; Lunch @ Fellowship Hall @ 12 noon. Saturday, December 17th, interment for immediate family will be at Buena Vista Burial Park.
