Israel Alvarez, 72, of Brownsville, Texas, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Sunshine Haven in Olmito, Texas after a short illness.  He is survived by his wife Kimberly (Kelley) Alvarez, step-son Joshua Kelley, daughter Adriana Alvarez and sister Alicia Peña, numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his sister Anabel Alvarez Ortiz, his mother Dominga Alvarez and his father Juan Peña.  He served his country from 1966 – 1986 in the Army Reserves, Army National Guard and US Army, where he received numerous awards.  He worked for 22 years with BISD in the Special Education Department from were he retired in February of 2014.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 from 1:00 – 9:00 p.m. with military honors at 6:00 p.m. by VFW Post#2035 and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory. Services will conclude at the end of the visitation.
