Rosa Maria Raya

Rosa Maria Raya, 43, of Brownsville, TX, devoted sister, aunt, and friend, entered into eternal rest, Friday, November 4, 2016 at Valley Baptist Medical Center – Harlingen, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Brownsville, TX on December 25, 1972.

She is preceded in death by our parents, Juan M. and Enedina C. Raya. Left to cherish her memory are Juan (Mary Alice) Raya , Maria D. (Carlos) Rojano, Enedina (Earl) Spencer, Joe T. (Olga) Raya, Francis Raya, Josephine (Gilbert) Manzano, Leonardo Raya, Patricia (Mario) Vega, Ramiro (Maribel) Raya, Roger Raya, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be greatly missed.

Rosie earned a bachelor’s degree in social work. She devoted her life as a counselor and case worker at local non-profit organizations including youth centers, drug and alcohol rehabilitation units, and centers for battered-women. Rosie more recently focused her time as an eligibility specialist/caseworker at Valley Regional Medical Center-Brownsville for the past five years. She is remembered as a fun-loving sister and friend; she loved to read books, enjoyed cooking, traveling, and always had a great sense of humor.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to nurses and medical staff who provided care for Rosie at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville and Harlingen as well as Retama Rehab – Harlingen. Special thanks to Dr. Castillo and his team, the Valley Baptist Critical Care Dept. and the Pastoral Services for their unwavering care and support during our time of need.

Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 1 to 9 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A chapel service will be held Monday, November 7, 2016 at 12:00 noon at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens of Brownsville, Texas.
