Alberto Zavala, 79, passed away on Thursday October 6, 2016, while surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents Marcos and Julia Zavala, his sister Teresa Conejo and his brothers Elpidio (Susana) and Eusebio (Irma) Zavala. He is survived by his sister Irene (Sergio) Rodriguez and brothers Santos (Alicia), Francisco (Rosa), Arturo (Marta) and Marcos (Ida) Zavala, along with his wife Eva Zavala and his four children Anna (Rick) Perez, David Zavala, Dora Zavala, and Albert (Michelle) Zavala Jr. He left behind 5 grandchildren Jennifer Perez and Rick Perez Jr., Jorge Pedraza Jr., Ashlie Zavala, and Matthew Zavala. Alberto was born April 8, 1937 in Bishop, Texas. His family relocated to San Pedro, Texas where he attended Brownsville High School and later graduated from Los Fresnos High school where he played football and was the team captain.
He was an active member or the St. Luke’s Catholic Church. He never missed a Friday night football game. He rooted for all valley teams, but his loudest cheers were always for his beloved Hanna Eagles.
Alberto was known for his contagious smile. He never passed up an opportunity to be in front of the camera. His biggest smiles though were when he was surrounded by his beloved grandchildren. Alberto’s most cherished accomplishments were when he served as an Honor Guard for JFK’s inauguration in January 20, 1961. Alberto also fought in the opening bout of the Regional Golden Gloves Tournament in 1956.
Alberto was known for being an avid sports fanatic. The teams he will continue to watch from the best seats in the house will surely be the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, the L.A. Lakers and the New York Yankees. When Alberto wasn’t cheering for those teams you could find him on the water fishing with his son David.
