Ruben Lucio Cortez, 73, of Brownsville, Texas, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 19, 2016, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Alamo, Texas on July 4, 1943.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Pablo Cortez, Sr. and Manuela Cortez, and siblings, Pablo Cortez, Jr. and Elida Cortez.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Norma Cortez; children Linda (Carlos) Aguilar, Ruben (Sandra) Cortez, Mark (Vanessa) Cortez, Manuela (Gabriel) Cortez, and Valente Cortez; siblings Andy Cortez, Ricardo Cortez, Irma Lucio, Francis Perez, Lupita Reyna, Maggie Cortez, and Yolanda Cortez; and grandchildren Carlos Aguilar, Kimberly Aguilar, Jason Aguilar, Sofia Nataia Cortez, Ana Karina Cortez, Julieta Isabella Cortez, Ruben Andres Cortez, Queen Emily Vela, Haley Cortez, Madison Cortez, and Mark Cortez.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, with a prayer service to be held at 5:00 p.m.

A chapel service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 22, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
