BOB A. AUSTIN, SR., age 82, passed away after a sudden illness in the arms of his loving and adored wife on Friday, July 29th, 2016. Bob(Bobbie) was born December 07, 1933 in Sparks, Oklahoma to John W. and Sylvia Selma Austin who both precede him in death. He is also preceded in death by his loving sister Guqueta. He came to Texas from Oklahoma in 1962 as an Insurance Special Agent, purchased a portion of an insurance agency in Brownsville in 1969, and formed his own corporate insurance company, Austin Agency, Inc., in 1997. He was a life member of the Confederate Air Force and served on their General Staff for several years, past president of the Brownsville Boys Club, President of Villa Bethany and La Esperanza Homes for children, president of the Brownsville Pony League, president of the Brownsville Insurance Agents Association, was one of the original founders of the Texas Bank & Trust and served on their Board of Directors until TB&T was sold to Texas State Bank, and later to BBVA Compass. His first love was flying. He would go on to own numerous aircraft, constructed several aircraft and would stop whatever he was doing to talk flying, fishing, hunting, football or amateur radio. He was an avid Ham Radio operator (K5VC) and on the first Monday of each month could be found at the Brownsville CAF Hangar with his Q.B. flying buddies, for their monthly outing. Bob, is survived by his loving wife Maura, whom he adored, four sons, Mark, Brick, Oklahoma City., Eric (Sergio), Brownsville, Tx., Bobbie, Jr.(Jeani), San Antonio, Tx., and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at the Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 657 Springmart Blvd., Brownsville, on Friday, August 5th, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Brownsville Barnstormers Flying Museum, Inc.     I will miss Mr. Austin,
    He was a great supporter of me becoming a ham operator, which is something I really enjoy, he would encourage me to keep pursuing not just my dreams, but to upgrade to general license for ham radio.

    He always had a smile, and always had a cheerful way, always had a kind word.
