Mrs. Doreen Angelina (Borden)

Mrs. Doreen Angelina (Borden) Garvin lovingly known as Nana passed away at home on Friday, June 17, 2016 at the age of 92 surrounded by her loving family. Doreen was born in the island of Guanaja Bay Islands, Honduras on January 13, 1924 and moved to Port Isabel, TX in 1980 where she was a resident of until her passing. Doreen was the oldest of nine children from the Luther Borden family.
Doreen enjoyed speaking to people on the phone and wearing her high heels to the Honduran parties and dancing to Caribbean music. Her favorite past time included reading books, traveling and eating her favorite candy Zeros.
Doreen will be remembered as a mother and esteemed lady figure to her younger siblings, an English teacher to the neighborhood children of Honduras and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church.
Doreen is preceded in death by her husband of 27 years Lloyd Verdon Garvin+, daughter Colleen Lavone Garvin+, sons Carlon+ (Sonia) Garvin and Warren Garvin+ and a granddaughter Jamila Bush+. Left to cherish her love and legacy are her children Verdon (Ellie+) Garvin, Larry (Marge) Garvin, Cheryl (Buster+) Bush and Ilona (George+) Haylock and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
As per Doreen’s wishes a private ceremony was held with immediate family members and a celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the residence of her granddaughter Donna Haylock-de la Garza.
