Deacon Enrique “Henry” Saldana


Deacon Enrique “Henry†Saldana, 74, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Solara Hospital-Brownsville surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 15, 1941 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. At the age of 5 years his family moved to Los Fresnos, Texas where he was raised. He later moved to Brownsville, Texas.

Deacon Saldana is preceded in death by his parents, Margarito Saldana and Felicitas Castillo Saldana; an infant brother, Margarito Saldana; and in laws, Santiago Flores and Angelita G. Flores.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 49 years Consuelo Flores Saldana; children, Veronica (Eduardo) Reyes; Adriana (Rene) Abete; Enrique (Cynthia) Saldana; grandchildren, Katy Abete, Frankie Reyes, Alyssa and Zoe Saldana; and his siblings, Antonio (Petra+) Saldana, Maria Cruz (Florentino+) Herrera, Andrea (Joe) Trevino, and Paula (Raul) Torres.

He was a member of the Men’s Club at Our Lady of Good Counsel and a Knights of Columbus 4th degree Life Member. He was a Deacon at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church for 20 years and worked for the Brownsville Police Department from 1967-1978, and also for the Cameron County Adult Probation from 1978-2001.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church from 12-9 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church with burial to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Antonio Saldana, Henry Saldana Jr., Rene Abete, Eduardo Reyes, Frankie Reyes and Ray Ortiz. Services have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory.
