Ernesto, â€Ernie†Alfonso Cantu Jr. MD, 45, of Brownsville, TX, devoted son, brother, uncle and friend, entered into eternal rest on January 22, 2016, at his residence surrounded by loving family. He was born in Brownsville, TX, on December 25, 1970.
He is preceded in death by his step-father, Jose Lopez. Left to cherish his memory is his father, Ernesto A. Cantu Sr., his mother Mary Alta Lopez and his sister, Christine Troiani, along with a nephew, Dominic Paolo Troiani and a niece, Sophia Anastacia Troiani.
Ernesto, â€Ernieâ€, was an alumni of St. Joseph’s Academy in Brownsville, TX. He graduated from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara Medical School. He completed his 3 year residency in Family Practice/ OB-GYN, in Bryan, TX, He practiced medicine for many years in several clinics and hospitals throughout Texas. Ernie was a talented and much respected physician. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He had a love for nature and the outdoors. His lifelong love was fishing. His friendships were close and longstanding. We are grateful for the privilege to have had Ernie with us for the years that our Lord has allowed. He will be greatly missed. May his soul rest in peace.
Visitation will be held today, January 25, 2016, from 5-9 pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Brownsville, with a recitation of the Holy Rosary to be held at 7pm.
