Simon Rivera Jr.

Simon Rivera Jr.

Our beloved patriarch, Simon Rivera, Jr., went to be with Jesus peacefully and surrounded by family in his home on May 3, 2023 at age 83 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Simon was born to Maria Reyes and Simon Rivera, Sr. on September 3, 1939 in Brownsville, TX. Simon was known for his joking personality, being able to fix anything, his creative woodworking abilities and most importantly being a man of integrity. He attended El Jardin elementary and Cummings junior high then earned his GED and graduated from Texas Southmost College with a certificate in A/C and refrigeration. After being a day laborer, Simon started his own lawn service and contracting business. Upon retiring, he moved his family to San Antonio, TX in 2003.

In 1957, Simon met MariaElena, a match truly made in heaven. Simon & MariaElena went on to have four children, Patricia (Mehdi) Moshfeghian, Rosario (David) Mullally, Veronica Ramirez and Simon (Liz) Rivera, III. Simon was a loyal servant to God, first and foremost. He loved the church and loved sharing the love and warmth of our savior, Jesus Christ, with as many people as possible. He was a member of Word of God Church, Church Triumphant and ICC in Brownsville as well as Fortress Church and then Northwest Hills Church in San Antonio.

Simon joins his parents and siblings, Jose Jesus, Isabella, Zoila, and Anacario in Heaven. He is survived by many loving family members, including his devoted wife, MariaElena, siblings: Elida, Ramona and Antonio as well as all of his children, grandchildren (10) and great-grandchildren (8).

The family requests your presence to celebrate Simon’s life with a prayer service at 11AM on Saturday May 20, 2023 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services conclude at 1PM. Services are under the guidance of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory & Flower Shop. 657 Springmart Blvd., Brownsville, Texas. (956) 350-8485

His gentle voice, his beautiful smile and his gift of a sense of humor- I can relive just looking at this picture. Tio Mon was a man of faith that loved his family as well as his extended family and friends. May God rest his soul and may Perpetual light shine upon him. Know that you are all in my prayers as well as my children’s. God be with you and yours. Sylvia and family

God does not tell you about the day he call us to go and live with him. But God says there will be a day when we are going to see each other and will be together for ever again.
I believe in God, I believe in his words and I know our brother Simon will be reuniting with us again.
In the mean time sister Elena and all your family we send you our condolences,, we are family and we know that the decisions of GOD are always the best.
God bless you and your family always..
    Julie. Gina, Ivan and Yara.

Simon was a kind, generous, jokester of a man. We are blessed to have known him . I’m always amazed at men who are talented and ingenious in craftsmanship. Simon was a good man and a good friend. I’m sure his absence will leave a big hole.
