Fernando Galvan Perez Jr., 77, of Brownsville, entered eternal rest with the Lord on May 29, 2021, surrounded by his loving family at Sunshine Haven.
He is preceded in death by his parents Fernando Perez Sr., and Maria Galvan Perez; brother Armando “Cruzito†Perez.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, the “Love of his Life†Delfina Esparza Perez (his Guerita); sons from Brownsville, Fernando (Lisa Edna Perez) Perez III, Miguel Angel Perez, and his daughter from Austin, Maria Monica (Brady Collin) White; grandchildren Orlando Ernesto Perez of Brownsville, Sofia Grace, and Ian Grant White of Austin.
Fernando graduated from Brownsville High School in 1964. He enlisted in the Navy and was aboard the USS Ship as a cook in the Mediterranean Sea close to the Red Sea. Fernando learned about baking from his father at the age of 10 at International Bakery on International Blvd., Brownsville. Fernando was a Master Baker and Manager at Bonanza Steak House and worked as a probation officer and correctional officer.
He was a loving father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend. He will always be remembered for his humor and outlook on life, his life of nature, and the love of his dogs. He was a unique “Old School Badassâ€. He will be greatly missed by all those that were fortunate in knowing him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, from 5 to 8 PM with a memorial service at 7 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Thursday, June 3, 2021, visitation will continue at 11 AM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with burial to follow at 2 PM at Buena Vista Burial Park. Pallbearers will Miguel Angel Perez, Fernando Perez III, Orlando Ernesto Perez, Norberto Perez, Brady Collin White, and Gabriel Garcia. The family is eternally grateful to the personnel at Sunshine Haven for the Loving Care given to Fernando.

It was a true pleasure to visit and discuss our geneology with the center of attention always being your sense of humor. Dear Perez family,
By chance a bit ago I came across Nando’s obituary as I (again) searched for Crucito’s. I grew up on Dan Street, so the Perezes were like family since a very long time ago. And, despite the years, I continue to regard them with great love, respect, and friendship. I feel immensely blessed to have known Nando, Crucito, Mary, and Fernando. They were salt of the earth; loving, heart-working folks with strong traditions and great-big hearts. No doubt, they must be rejoicing in heaven, talking up a storm, telling lots of funny stories, and reminiscing about the rest of us. God bless their sweet souls! And God bless your family and friends at this time of great loss.
