Melissa Lozano Flores

Melissa Lozano Flores

Melissa Lozano Flores, 50 years old, left us too soon on August 9, 2020, at 12:15 p.m. at Valley Baptist Hospital in Brownsville, Texas.  She was the daughter of Jorge Luis Flores and Diana Montes Flores whom she has now been reunited with, in heaven.

Melissa was born in Brownsville, Texas.  Melissa graduated from Pace High School, class of ’88, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from the University of Texas Brownsville.  She worked as a teacher for the Brownsville Independent School District for 27 years.  Most recently she served as an elementary school teacher at Burns Elementary. She found so much joy in teaching and loved the Burns family dearly.

Melissa was larger than life, with a laughter that expressed all the joys she found throughout everyday of her life.   Her laughter was so contagious.  Melissa was the energy in every room she walked through.  You always knew that when Melissa was around, you were going to smile, laugh, sing, and dance. Always the “Life of the Party.† She had an abundance of beautiful friends surrounding her at every moment. She was truly loved dearly and so blessed.

What brought Melissa the most joy was being a mother to her two beautiful children, Zoe and Arian.  She lived every moment for them.  She would take them on many adventures and many memorable trips.  Her dream came true when she became a Mama.

She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Diana Montes Flores. She is survived by her loving father, Jorge Luis Flores, her siblings, Jorge L. Flores Jr, Diana Flores Anzaldua, the children’s father, Rogelio Lozano, and her beautiful children Zoe Melissa and Rogelio Arian.

The family asks for your understanding that in order to be in compliance with the county and state health restrictions and funeral regulations, they will be having a family service for their beloved Melissita at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. There will be a public viewing from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 PM on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. They will be allowing 10 people at a time in the room with a mask. There will be a Holy Rosary for only the immediate family from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. due to the 10 people limitations.

Mrs. Lozano took the time to be a ‘Mom’ to her students. She taught my GrandSon Henry to tie his shoelaces. She approached me with such assurance of success. She told me, “Our Henry, is a wee-bit” behind the needed reading guidelines.” Keeping him individually after classes will be best. Today, Henry is succeeding as a high school student meeting ‘needed guidelines’. Thank you Mrs. Lozano for being aa “Mom’, and a caring teacher.

To the Flores Family, Even though we never had the pleasure to meet Melissita, we felt we knew her because we walked with all of you throughout her illness. In our hearts, she was one of our one. We prayed tirelessly for her but God had other plans. Please accept our sincere condolences and please know, we continue praying for all of you and specially Zoe and Arian. Love, La Joya Class of 66.
