Sylvia Perez Zacarias

Sylvia Perez Zacarias

Sylvia Pérez Zacarias was welcomed into Heaven on August 8, 2020, at Valley Baptist Medical Center.  She was a devoted wife, a caring mother, a loving grandmother, a confidant, and an amazing human being.  Sylvia was surrounded by her loving family and those dear to her, spiritually and in prayer, as she entered eternal rest. She was born in Brownsville, TX on October 23, 1960.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents Carlota Barquiarena Lopez and Juan Pérez Hernandez; her siblings, Falcón Pérez Barquiarena, Andrés Pérez Barquiarena, Gaspar Pérez Barquiarena, Darío Pérez Barquiarena, Luis Pérez Barquiarena, Primitivo Pérez Barquiarena, and Juan Pérez Barquiarena.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Antonio Zacarias Salazar; children, Sylvia Y. Zacarias “Chivis,†Antonio D. Zacarias “Chuy†(Rocio Villarreal), Jose E. Zacarias “Choche†(Kimberly Zacarias); grandchildren, Carolyn N. Pérez, Thiago A. Zacarias, and Noah O. Zacarias; siblings, Carlos Pérez Barquiarena, Alicia Pérez Barquiarena, and Roberto Pérez Barquiarena.  She will be greatly missed by everyone.

Sylvia Pérez Zacarias has left us, but her presence will remain among us and time will never erase it.  Her energy, her laughter, that particular voice, her way of talking that you didn’t know if she was scolding you or telling you a joke, but in the end she managed to always get a smile out of you.  Life is not fair, and sometimes we do not understand why things happen.  No one expected that Sylvia might one day be gone, and even though she is no longer physically around us, she has left her mark on us that will live forever.  Her time on Earth was short, but full of purpose.  She touched each of us and now it’s up to us to keep in touch with those memories and say one last goodbye.

Trying to think about what makes Sylvia such a beloved person is so hard because a thousand and one stories come to mind; but those stories make me laugh and cry at the same time.  Those phrases with that hoarse voice that gave us no choice but to listen to her, and the occasional words that offered comfort with a kindness and support that always characterize her.  Sylvia always had a place at her table for each of us, a joke to tell and a big hug to give. Her family was always the most important thing for her and we can be sure that even in her last breath, she was thinking about us.

Right now, we can rest assured that Sylvia is watching over us, saying one of those characteristic words she used, and laughing from Heaven. She was a mother, friend, companion, but most of all, she was unique and someone very special to us.  Let us pray for her eternal rest and for her family with prayers as the flowers wither, the tears evaporate, but prayers always reach Heaven.  Rest in Peace, Sylvia Pérez Zacarias …
