Constanza E. Correa, 99, of Brownsville, Texas, devoted aunt entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at her residence. She was born on August 3, 1917 in Brownsville, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jose Anselmo Correa and Maria Encarnacion Garcia de Correa; siblings Jose Arnulfo Correa who died fighting in WWII. Left to cherish her memory is her nephew Jose A. (Mary Ellen) Correa, and their children Jose A. Correa, Carlos (Aracely) Correa, Anna (Abel) De Leon; grandnieces Delilah Gutierrez, Ana Paulina De Leon, Sofia De Leon, Carolina De Leon and Madison Correa. As a youth, she attended Incarnate Word Academy. Subsequently she attended Brownsville schools where she graduated in 1935. She received her BA and MA from Texas A&I. She started her teaching career at Villanueva Elementary in 1943. Then she taught 1st grade from 1953-1974 at Cromack Elementary. When Del Castillo Elementary opened, she was hired once again to teach 1st grade from 1974-1985. She dedicated 42 years to teaching in BISD. “Mina†as she was affectionately known was an active member and supporter of Immaculate Conception Church, crocheting and knitting items for sale and making rosaries. She was very generous, contributing money and volunteering her time in support of her faith. She was an avid reader. She traveled extensively, including South America, Europe and many churches and religious shrines around the world. She was an active member of Catholic Daughters, Altar Rosary Society and the Rancho Viejo Retired School Employees Association. She loved spending time with family, especially the children.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory. Services will conclude at the end of the visitation. 657 Springmart Blvd., Brownsville, Texas. (956) 350-8485

My deepest condolences to the family of Miss Correa. She and my mother were very, very good friends up until my mother’s passing in 1993. They were teachers together at both Cromack and Del Castillo. I will always remember Miss Correa with love, as she always came to my birthday parties and other family occasions. My mother didn’t drive, so Miss Correa would always give her a ride and they belonged to several of the same organizations. Miss Correa was kind, loving, and very dedicated to God. May she rest in peace.
Estimada familia Correa. Nada es comparable al profundo dolor de perder a un ser querido. Se siente un vacio y una tristeza muy grande pero podemos encontrar consuelo en el mensaje de la biblia. El salmista imploro a Dios: “Sirva tu bondad amorosa por favor, para consolarme” (Sal. 119:76). Una manera muy destacada como nuestro Padre celestial nos conforta es dandonos animo y guia. El Salmo 119:105 dice que su palabra es una lampara y una luz que ilumina nuestro camino. Le animamos a encontrar consuelo en el mensaje de la biblia.
