Maria Angelica “Angie” Chavez-Trevino


Maria Angelica “Angie†Chavez-Trevino, beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend, went to be with the Lord on July 24, 2016, after a courageous battle against cancer. Angie was born in Brownsville, Texas on December 15, 1969. She is proceeded in death by her father, Luciano Chavez, Sr., and cherished grandmother, Carolina “Ama†Garza.

Angie is survived by her husband, Mark Trevino, daughter, Katarina Chavez, and son, Memphis Trevino. She is also survived by her mother, Esther G. Chavez, brother, Luciano Chavez, Jr., and sister, Teresa “Terri†A. Chavez.

The immediate family would like to thank the following for all the love, care, and support, provided to Angie and them throughout her life and during her battle with cancer, “Papo†Trevino, “Dima” Trevino, Helen, Delma, Tia Goya, Tia Pita, Margarita, Sherry, Norma and twins, Linda, Ana and Eric, Valeria and family, Anthony, and all personnel, doctors, nursing, teachers, and/or staff at Ben Brite Elementary School, Valley Regional Medical Center, M.D. Anderson, Valley Baptist Medical Center, Gentiva Hospice, Dr. Laura Cisneros, Dr. Betancourt, Sunshine Haven, Edmundo Gonzalez & Assoc., Royston Rayzor, Porter Class of ’88, and to all her extended family and numerous friends.

Angie received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a Master’s Degree from the University of Texas at Brownsville. She had been working on her Ph.D. at the time of her first diagnosis with cancer.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Luciano Chavez, Jr., Juan Jose Trevino, John Trevino, and Eric Hinojosa.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 from 1-9 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with services concluding at the end of the funeral mass. Services are under the guidance of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory. (956) 350-8485

    Angie, it saddens me that you’re gone. The last time I saw you, you had a smile on your face and hope in your eyes. It was the last gathering we had in your honor at La Cucaracha. I admired your strength. You never led on to people around you that you were in any pain. You always seemed so joyful and at peace when we got together. I was not there when you closed your eyes…forever. But its that final majestic smile and warm embrace you gave me that I will forever remember you by. I’m blessed that you were my friend Angie.

    My deepest condolence to the Trevino-Chavez Family. It is heartbreaking to hear that Angie passed on. I have lovely memories of Angie,and of how sweet and friendly she could be to anyone she met.For me, she was the class of 88, and I feel blessed to have graduated with such a beautiful person.May the Lord bless and comfort her family and friends at this very difficult time.
